Serramel Company dates back to 1898, when Jorge de Almeida Lima acquired the first mobile hives and explored them at Quinta do Lameiro, in S. Domingos de Benfica, Lisbon. In 1974, two great-grandsons of Jorge Almeida Lima decided to recover the old hives, dedicating body and soul to beekeeping. From Lisbon they move to Penamacor, in Beira Baixa, choosing the magnificent landscapes of Serra da Malcata as the Serramel Terroir.
