Licoreira Portuguesa Company revives country flavors and recovers recipes and traditions that go back to the last century. Dating back to 1809, at the time of the French invasions, the Duke of Dalmatia spent the night with his troops, at Souto's house, delighting himself with these fruity and intense liqueurs, as a way to warm their souls. It was in 1916 that Américo Moreira da Costa, which was a son of farmers, recovered ancestral recipes and inaugurated a typical tavern. He sold wines and snacks, as well as spirits and liquors. It had the name of the American tavern. At his death, it started o be called the Tasquinha of Américo's Widow. The tavern was known for the quality of snacks, good wines, spirits and liqueurs. It became famous arround the country. The tavern was inherited by the children, and later the grandchildren, however the artisanal production of spirits and liquors, was forgotten. Only later, the tradition was recovered by Licoreira Portuguesa by great-grandson Filipe.
